walking back to zappiness

a free first step to a fitter you!

You may already be aware that Food Optimising without including regular activity will bring fabulous weight loss results. But did you know that Food Optimising with the right kind of regular moderate activity - a synergy that we call Body Magic - can bring results that are even more staggering!

And what’s great about this moderate activity is that it doesn’t need to be expensive, it’s not dreadfully time consuming and it can be fun!

If you’d like to inject a little activity into your life have you considered walking – it’s an effective and free first step towards a slimmer, fitter and healthier you.

Studies have shown that walking:

  • Is one of the most efficient ways of using up energy and helping you manage your weight because it uses large muscle groups, is not too difficult and doesn't require any expensive equipment.
  • Can help you build up your metabolic rate if you have been very inactive so that you use up more calories even when you are resting.
  • Makes you feel better by improving your mood and providing a sense of achievement and satisfaction.
  • Is one of the best ways to improve your heart's fitness, and develop healthier blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Helps you combat osteoporosis by strengthening your bones.

planning a walking programme

For the first month you should do no more than think about increasing the frequency of your walking.

To get started, look for a time slot which you can keep sacred in your daily schedule that allows you to get out and do some walking, even if it's only 15 minutes to start with. The idea is to build up a habit. Start with three days each week. Slowly build up by adding an extra day so that in four weeks' time you are regularly managing five or six sessions a week of at least 15 minutes. Your next goal will be to extend some of the sessions to 30 minutes, but worry about that later. Right now, concentrate on grabbing that time in the day for yourself and your walk.

How to squeeze in those 15 minutes:

  • Take a regular lunchtime walk.
  • Walk to the train station or bus stop and back on work days.
  • Walk with the kids to school and back.
  • Take the dog for a walk in the evening instead of sitting down to watch TV.
& that's not all! more...
