Nicola Smith lost a brilliant 1st 11½lbs in time for her September wedding. As the photograph shows, Nicola made a beautiful bride. She tells us here how she lost the weight in time for her big day!

“I put on weight after my job changed from doing outdoor, physical work to a desk-based role. I was also very content in my relationship with (my then boyfriend) Jay as I know he loves me no matter what size I am, this led to a relaxed attitude in my eating habits. However, when we’d met four years earlier I was slim and fit.

“The final straw came after a visit to a well-women clinic. The nurse informed me that considering my height and weight, the BMI chart showed that I was obese. I never thought I looked that big.

“Jay and I both tried to lose weight, we ate healthily (or so we thought), but the odd treat slipped in and changed it all! Even though we’re both active, we saw that as an excuse to eat a few more treats! I tried the Atkins diet and the GI plan, but my husband is a vegetarian so these plans were not very practical and too high in fat

"It got to a stage where we were both so frustrated we had to do something. That's when a flyer for a Slimming World group floated in through our lette rbox. We went along that night and we have never looked back!"

“My mother has been a Slimming World member in Penzance for over two years and she often talked about the support of her group so I knew that we’d have no problem fitting in. This was soon confirmed when we went along - the group is really friendly and supportive.

“I love Food Optimising! As we follow a vegetarian diet, we enjoy Green days and eat loads of fruit and veg with pulses and pasta. The variety is amazing! We often have friends for dinner and cook a roasted vegetable lasagne or have a vegetarian curry night and make aloo gobi, lentil dahl and chickpea & spinach curry served with piles of rice!

My favourite all-time meal is roasted root vegetable hash with quorn sausages and a poached egg! The great thing is, if I fancy steak, I can have an Original choice or use my Healthy Extra and still cook a vegetarian dinner for Jay.

“Since I lost the weight I’ve never felt better. I’ve increased my exercise and now join my husband in some serious off-road mountain biking! We even took our bikes to Ireland for our honeymoon! I also ran the 5km Race for Life this year and now I want to enter the London Triathlon! I feel really fit and sexy, like a new woman!

“Seven months before I joined my group I’d been to London to choose a wedding dress. I was measured and the dress was made. I returned to London for a fitting before my wedding in September and the dress fell off me! They had to take the skirt in by 5 inches and the top by 4 inches, I was so pleased! Walking down the aisle as a slim bride was amazing! Jay and I have a much healthier and energetic life together now!

“I can't tell you how much better I feel for joining Slimming World! The group that we attend is amazing, the support and warmth that they give is overwhelming! I love going along once a week to see everyone and catch up!”
